The Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association and active residents of outer southeast are collaborating with Zenger Farm on a project to train urban farming techniques to residents of Outer Southeast Portland, with the hope that it will promote health and economic vitality in our community. This project is unique in that it is community-based, that the participants of this training themselves play a critical role in designing and creating relevant workshops. We are gathering a strong group of people who will support each other in their learning, and we would welcome your participation! We are pleased to announce that our first workshop, "Starting Seeds and Extending the Season," will be held on Monday, April 2nd, from 6pm until 8:30pm at the Zenger Farmhouse. We are hopeful that this is relevant to the season we are entering, and plan to follow this with other important workshops such as garden planning, companion planting, and soil science. Please RSVP to Prairie Hale if you plan on attending, or call her if you have questions. It would be helpful to include in your email or call any specifics that you want covered within the larger topic of Starting Seeds and Extending the Season; this will give the presenters further assessment of participant needs.
