Our goal is to keep large unwanted items off our neighborhood streets and properties, educate the community about proper disposal and resources for disposal of unwanted items, as well as build community through volunteer opportunities and coming for a common cause.

On the day of the event, simply bring your unwanted items to the parking lot at Mt. Scott Church during the collection hours listed above and follow the instructions from the volunteers on site.

FAQs

Is there a cost to bring unwanted items to the dumpster?
Nope, it’s free to the community! We are proud of and thankful for our partnership with Arrow Sanitary Service, Waste Management, Mt. Scott Church of God, and Four Forces Inc. to be able to provide this service for free to our community.

What can I bring?
For safety, environmental and legal reasons, we can only handle certain materials. Materials we can collect: furniture, cardboard, metal (including refrigerators), plastic, wood, yard waste, and garbage. Materials not accepted: construction materials; siding; roofing; nothing that came from ceilings, floors, or walls; air conditioners (with Freon); asbestos; batteries; chemicals; drums; barrels; electronics; hazardous waste; liquids; oils; gasoline; paint cans with liquid paint; propane tanks; refrigerators (with Freon); tires; TVs.

Is there a limit to how much I can bring?
No. We will have three 30-yard drop boxes available for the community until they fill up (no later than 1:00 PM).
I don't live in Lents. Can I bring my trash to your cleanup?
Thank you for asking! This cleanup is designed as a service to the Lents community to address the issue of unwanted items abandoned on some of our streets. It's been organized specifically for Lents. That being said, we are using a honors system and won't be checking the ID of those dumping their trash/recycling.

What’s your plan for keeping the community safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the site of the cleanup?
We take our responsibility of keeping the community, partners, and volunteers safe very seriously. Our COVID-19 health & safety guidelines include the following:
-Temperature scan prior to beginning of shift for volunteers, partners, or anyone present at the site for more than a drop off.
-Distancing of 6 feet between community members no more than 10 people gathered at a time.
-Pull-up drop off to prevent personal interactions beyond the delivery
-Minimizing face-to-face engagement by having promotional signs, banners, informational pamphlets, and a digital sign in log
-Requiring masks and having masks available at least 12 feet from the dumpster location.
-Having a sanitizer station available for use at any time.
-Volunteers and partners will wear gloves at all times.
-Dolly’s available for items that cannot be hand carried to the dumpster by the delivering community member.
-Sealed individual water bottles and evaluation of climate to ensure that heat is not an issue for those present.

Can I make a donation to the Lents Neighborhood Association for providing this service to the community?
Yes! As a volunteer-run, non-profit organization, we will gladly accept donations to help offset some of the costs associated with this cleanup and ensure we can have more events like this in the future. You may write us a check, payable to the Lents Neighborhood Association, and mail it to 1017 NE 117th Ave, Portland, Oregon, or donate through PayPal (PayPal account info coming soon).

Do you need any volunteers for the event?
Yes, we do! If you’d like to volunteer, please email Jennifer.marie.b@outlook.com.
