The meeting was called to order at 6:35 by Chair Alice Blatt.
Those attending the meeting included board members Ed Clark, Carolyn Clark, Kathi Holmes, Alice Blatt, and Joyce Ley. Others attending were Dan Brecker, Joanne Kraft, Portland Police Officer Miguel Olmos, Al Kendall, and Roger Dahl.
The Treasurer’s Report presented by Alice Blatt indicated a balance of $4606.00. The fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. The March 1, 2011 statement from East Portland Neighborhood Office (EPNO) shows a balance of $878.75 currently remaining from the 2010-2011 grant. A balance of $100 from the previous year’s grant can be carried over, but other unused funds must go back to the City.
Officer Olmos reported good news for the North Precinct portion of our neighborhood in that burglaries are down in the region, and there have been none in the Wilkes Neighborhood.
Most have occurred on Airport Way.
Movies in the Park:
Kathi Holmes explained that the date for the 2011 Movies in the Park was set for Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Confirmation of the movies selected by the WCG has not yet been received.
Roger Dahl from Cricket Communication reported on procedures utilized to inform residents in the vicinity of the north side of NE Glisan Street east of NE 160th Avenue of pending replacement of wooden utility pole with a taller steel utility pole.
Kathi Holmes moved to accept the Cricket Communication proposal for the change. Motion seconded by Joyce Ley; motion carried. Chair Alice Blatt stated that she would request the City to require listing neighborhood associations to receive notification when future modifications are proposed along with prescribed time lines.
After a brief discussion on providing a porta potty facility at Wilkes Park, Carolyn Clark moved that we continue to contract this service. Kathi Holmes seconded the motion; motion carried.
Consideration for establishing an informational kiosk in Wilkes Park resulted in a motion by Joyce Ley and seconded by Kathi Holmes to begin gathering and collecting information relative to expenses, procedures, etc. required for such a project. Motion carried.
Shirley Craddick, Metro Councilor, will be guest speaker at the April 5, 2011 meeting.
The City of Portland has purchased a 20 acre property known as Roughton Acquisition. Of this the initial proposal includes development of four acres for use as an active area with the remaining 16 acres to be a natural area.
An article on Wilkes Community Group for the EPNO publication is due on March 11, and Alice would appreciate assistance in completing the task.
